2011 Toronto Xiangqi Open Set for July 3 – all welcome!
To celebrate Canada Day, the 2011 Toronto Xiangqi Open is set to begin on Sunday July 3. Jointly organized by the Toronto Xiangqi Association and the Scarborough Seniors Chess Club, the tournament will take the form of a 7 round of Swiss tournament, to be held on three Sundays: July 3, 10 and 17. World Xiangqi Championships to take place in Jakarta next year
The World Xiangqi Championships will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2011. Here’s a news release: 世界象棋锦标赛明年底雅加达登场 中新网10月27日电 据印尼《星洲日报》报道，印度尼西亚象棋总会(PEXI)总主席林仲平23日宣布，将于2011年底，在雅加达举办世界象棋锦标赛，预计将吸引由来自世界50多个国家与地区，逾500名象棋好手参加。 他指出，举办世界象棋锦标赛主要是为了推广印度尼西亚的中华文化，并加强国内象棋选手与世界各国的交流，并表示PEXI非常庆幸，能够担任2年1次的世界象棋锦标赛的主办单位。 他是于23日在帝王印度尼西亚风味海鲜酒楼带领其它理监事，包括伍展利、林进强、李丕江、黄盈见、叶毓强、魏才程、张敬和、郭居仁及张国源，就该事举行新闻发布会上，如是表示。 他补充道，举办国际性比赛的其它主要目的，也是为了提高国家和民族形象，提升印度尼西亚象棋选手水准，并带动印度尼西亚旅游业的发展。 “希望国内各地区象棋协会利用比赛前的时间，加强选手们的比赛素质和经验，希望能够重演2009年的辉煌成绩。” 众所周知，2009年在中国山东省举行的世界象棋锦标赛，来自印度尼西亚邦加勿里洞的伊宛，在参加非华裔/非越裔组比赛，以优越的成绩夺冠，同时，1986年在香港举行的亚洲象棋锦标赛，印度尼西亚代表团也赢得第4名。
