A one-day speed tournament will be held to celebrate the Lunar New Year. All are welcome to join this casual competition.
The first ever Toronto Speed Xiangqi Open will take place one week into the Year of the Snake: Sunday, February 17 at New Kennedy Square (8360 Kennedy Road in Markham, just South of Highway 7). Play begins at 1 p.m.
The tournament will last seven rounds and use the Swiss system. For each game, the players will get 15 minutes plus 10 seconds added after every move.
The tournament will be jointly organized by the Toronto Xiangqi Association and the Scarborough Seniors Chess Club, and co-sponsored by Justwear Optical and the New Kennedy Square Food Court.
The tournament is open to anyone. The top four finishers will be rewarded with
trophies and gifts. There will also be an end-game puzzle challenge.
The tournament is free for TXA members and costs $10 for non-members. A deposit of $10 will be returned upon completion of tournament.
